Genre's that I read the most

Romance: people falling in love

Contemporary: happening at the same time. It's 'new' or 'modern'.

Comedy: characters may have funny interactions with each other, or chance happenings, that bring the characters together. The atmosphere of a romance-comedy novel is, light-hearted, whimsical, and low-angst.

Fantasy: fairies, kings, queens, mages, healers, warriors, kingdoms

High-Fantasy: setting and time taking place in a made up place. Often times, high-fantasy novels take place in a completely different "world".

Low-Fantasy: setting and time taking place in a made up place. The difference is that low-fantasy can still have some "truth". For example: the author may say that the character lives on the island 'Morodor' off the coast of England. Morodor is fake, however, England is still a place on Earth.

Paranormal / Supernatural: ghosts, vampires, witches, werewolves, aliens,

Sci-fi: future, technologically advanced, other planets, sometimes robots, space-craft, alien races, space opera.
